Classic Fish and Chips
The entire family will enjoy these crispy fish and chips made with battered, deep-fried cod fillets and twice-fried French fries.

Put the sliced potatoes in a medium bowl, then add the cold water to cover them.

In a different medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.

When the batter is smooth, add the milk and egg.

Observe for 20 minutes.

During this time, heat the oil to 350 degrees F in a large pot or electric skillet (175 degrees C).

Pat potatoes dry after draining.

Fry in hot oil for about 5 minutes or until tender; drain on paper towels.

Place cod in hot oil after dredging it in batter one piece at a time.

Fish should be fried in batches until golden brown on all sides and then dried with paper towels.

Check the temperature of the oil and adjust the heat as necessary to maintain 350 degrees F.
