Date Bars II
Between layers of oat-crumb frosting is a softly spiced date filling.
Set oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C).
Butter a 9×9-inch square baking dish.
Combine the dates in a small saucepan.
Orange zest, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and cloves Lemon juice, water, and 1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon, allspice, and Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly, over medium-high heat, or until the dates are soft and the mixture has thickened.
Withdraw from heat and leave to cool
