Panna cotta is a classic Italian custard that’s as easy as it is delicious. This 5-ingredient recipe captures the dish’s famously rich, tender texture.

Put some milk in a tiny bowl.

Pour milk over gelatin powder, then stir to combine.

Place aside.

In a saucepan, combine sugar and heavy cream.

Watch carefully as the cream can quickly bubble up and boil over when placed over medium heat.

Stir the gelatin mixture into the boiling cream as soon as it starts to boil.

For one minute, cook and stir.

Add vanilla after turning off the heat in the pan.

Fill each of the six ramekins with the cream mixture.

Allow to cool for 20 minutes, uncovered, until it is no longer warm.
