Mexican Sugar Cookies
Anise and orange juice give these cut-out sugar cookies a taste of Mexico. Roll them in sugar and cinnamon to finish the job.
Set oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C).
Shortening should be fluffy and light.
Combine anise seed and one cup of sugar.
Blend until smooth.
Mix well after adding eggs.
Orange juice, cream of tartar, salt, and flour should be added.
Mix well.
Work dough until it is smooth.
Roll out to a thickness of 1/2 inch on a lightly dusted surface.
Use a cookie cutter to cut out various shapes.
Bake for 5 to 8 minutes, or until light brown.
While still warm, roll cookies in a mixture of 1 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons of cinnamon.
