Shortening should be fluffy and light.
Combine anise seed and one cup of sugar.

Orange juice, cream of tartar, salt, and flour should be added.
Work dough until it is smooth.
Roll out to a thickness of 1/2 inch on a lightly dusted surface.
Use a cookie cutter to cut out various shapes.
Bake for 5 to 8 minutes, or until light brown.
While still warm, roll cookies in a mixture of 1 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons of cinnamon.
